Second Temple-Era Synagogue Unearthed in Northern Israel

(Israel Hayom/Exclusive to JNS.org) The remains of an unusual structure that served as a synagogue during the Second Temple era have been unearthed at an archaeological excavation underway at Tel Rechesh in the heart of the Nahal Tavor Nature Reserve in the lower Galilee.

CHR Comment: According to the Gospels, one of the earliest witnesses to the existence and practices of synagogues, Jesus taught at synagogues like this one discovered in Galilee. The site gives testimony to the Gospel accounts and detailed information about the setting of Jesus’ ministry.

Christians Resettling Northeastern Nigeria

For years a key state in Islamist terror group Boko Haram’s attempt to create a caliphate, parts of Adamawa state in northeastern Nigeria have now been liberated by government forces. However, as civilians begin returning home, they are finding it difficult to adjust to life after the insurgency.

CHR Comment: Years of fighting resulted in the destruction of homes, churches, and wells, making resettlement difficult. Boko Haram remains a threat active in the country though their efforts to form a caliphate have failed.

Under Heavy Security, Catholic Pilgrims Visit Lourdes Shrine

Watched over by French soldiers and police, Catholic pilgrims from around the world prayed together for healing and peace Monday at a grotto shrine in Lourdes where exceptional security greeted the spiritual travelers due to recent extremist attacks.

Church Confirms Argentine Apparitions as ‘Supernatural’

SAN NICOLAS DE LOS ARROYOS, Argentina (RNS) Once a month, thousands of devout Catholics descend on this city, where an uneducated resident said she began seeing visions of the Virgin Mary on Sept. 25, 1983.

CHR Comment: Gladys Motta is now more than 80 years old and says she has received over 1800 visions from the Virgin Mary and 68 from Jesus. In addition to building the shrine, devotees are now publishing the content of Motta’s visions.

Iraqi Refugees Receive Vision and Baptism

Under the threat of the Islamic State (ISIS), thousands of residents from Fallujah, Iraq, have fled to a refugee town called City of Refuge.

CHR Comment: According to Frontiers USA mission, a refugee named Layla received a vision that someone would tell her about Jesus. The conversions are in part a response to those events.

Heidi Mund Claims to Receive Visions

She had a vision of the refugee “disaster” now engulfing Germany even before the first signs of trouble broke out.

CHR Comment: As Germany continues to welcome refugees, Heidi Mund claims that God showed her the refugees would lead to disaster in her nation. Mund’s Facebook posts about her visions have led to investigations of hate speech.

Nigeria Chibok Girls: Boko Haram Video Shows Captives

The Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram releases a video showing some 50 of the schoolgirls seized by the group from Chibok more than two years ago.

CHR Comment: Boko Haram continue to abuse and exploit the Chibok girls whom they took captive in April 2014. The report notes that many of these girls are Christians, now forced to “marry” Islam militants.

Random Shooting of Comfort Dog Team

Joplin police are trying to determine the motive of a 26-year-old man who was arrested early this morning following an active-shooter situation, which resulted in three crime scenes and five . . .

CHR Comment: The comfort dog team was from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin. The motive for the shooting is not yet determined but appears to be random.
