Mother Teresa’s Hometown Prepares for Her Canonization

The sleepy village of Letnica, Kosovo, is where Mother Teresa found her calling before going on to become one of the most famous figures in the Catholic Church.

CHR Comment: The canonization will take place on September 4 but Letnica expects increased attendance at their annual Black Madonna festival. The town is also the location of the monastery where Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (Mother Teresa) committed to becoming a missionary.

American Missionary Among the Dead in Burkina Faso Siege

Michael James Riddering, who moved from Florida, worked at the Les Ailes de Refuge Orphanage, about 70 miles from Ouagadougou.

CHR Comment: The attack included a Cappuccino Café where missionaries had gathered for a meeting. It appears that the missionaries were not intended as targets but where caught up in the attack unintentionally.

Chinese Christians plan to send 20,000 missionaries by 2030.

CHR Comment: In 2010 the Chinese government prevented Christians there from gathering to a mission conference in South Africa. Since then, Chinese Christians have worked to improve their opportunities to foster mission work. The article includes some helpful figures on countries that currently send the most missionaries.
