A jailed church leader in China has been tortured by authorities to extort a confession and is now suffering from serious diseases, his lawyers claim.
CHR Comment: Pastor Yang Hua, leader of a house church, remains in detention since December. He reports suffering torture, having been arrested under the charge of releasing state secrets.

Hyeon Soo Lim received life in prison with hard labor Wednesday for what was called crimes against the state.
CHR Comment: Pastor Lim, who was in North Korea offering aid at a nursing home, a nursery, and an orphanage, confessed to using religion to undermine the North Korean state as well as other charges. However, the article points out that such confessions have been coerced from prisoners in the past. Lim was pastor at Light Korean Presbyterian Church in Toronto.

This article describes some aspects of Christian belief about Christ’s descent into hell, which is of course in creeds widely recited in Christian worship. An aspect missing in the article is that although some Christians teach that Jesus descended into hell to suffer, others teach that Jesus descended into hell triumphantly to proclaim His victory over sin, death, and the power of the devil.
