Church Confirms Argentine Apparitions as ‘Supernatural’

SAN NICOLAS DE LOS ARROYOS, Argentina (RNS) Once a month, thousands of devout Catholics descend on this city, where an uneducated resident said she began seeing visions of the Virgin Mary on Sept. 25, 1983.

CHR Comment: Gladys Motta is now more than 80 years old and says she has received over 1800 visions from the Virgin Mary and 68 from Jesus. In addition to building the shrine, devotees are now publishing the content of Motta’s visions.

German Museum Rejoices over Durer Found at Flea Market

Stuttgart’s art museum says a print by Albrecht Durer donated by a man who found it at a French flea market is in very good condition.

CHR Comment: Durer’s “Mary Crowned by an Angel” likely illustrates late medieval piety before the Reformation influenced the artist’s theology.

CHR Comment: Devotees process to the festival caring objects of devotion and specific prayer requests with hope for healing and other blessings. On December 12, 1531, a Mexican man reported the visitation of the Virgin Mary to him, which became the basis for the annual festival.
