Cold War Churchman, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski Dies

Cardinal Franciszek Macharski, a popular Polish prelate who served for many years as archbishop of Krakow, inheriting a position opened by the election of Pope John Paul II, died on Tuesday. He was 89.
